We’re running the Cardiff Half 2025, and this is who we’re fundraising for…

For the first time, TLR are submitting a team of runners to take part in the Cardiff Half Marathon. Chris, Mary and Lauren - along with 2 volunteers (Mary's friend, Flo, and Lauren's boyfriend, Kiran) - will be braving the streets of Cardiff on the 5th October 2025 along the 21.1km route.

But most importantly, we have decided to take this opportunity to fundraise for our old friend Dan Williams - who was a valued colleague of ours at the TLR Swansea Office a few years ago. Dan was not just a teammate but part of our work family, and we have many great memories both in work and socially with Dan.

At The Living Room, we pride ourselves on strong morals and family values. We believe in supporting one another beyond the workplace because we see our colleagues (both current and old) as part of our extended family. When one of us faces hardship, we come together to offer help, compassion, and practical support.

Dan has been battling a rare and aggressive melanoma (stage 4) since late 2022. The disease originated in his spine, where it nearly caused paralysis. After emergency surgery and radiotherapy, he remained stable and regained strength and full fitness through 2023.

In early 2024, metastases were confirmed in the lung, followed by progression to the liver by the end of the year. He was placed on immunotherapy but unfortunately showed no response. As of early 2025, the cancer has spread extensively within the liver. Surgery, ablation, and radiotherapy have been ruled out as options by his NHS team. He has now been advised to explore options wider afield as options within the NHS are now limited.

Despite this, at the moment Dan is still physically well. He’s active, optimistic and determined to fight. But the tumour in his liver is growing fast, and without intervention, liver failure is a near-term guarantee.

OUR CARDIFF TEAM. Chris (second from left), Mary (third from right), and Lauren (second from right) will be running the half marathon this year along with two other volunteers, completing our team of 5. The rest of our office team will be opening up the office on the day of the half marathon (Sunday October 5th) and cheering on our team from the sidelines!

When we heard about the challenges that Dan is currently facing, we felt compelled to step up and support him in any way we can. And given that we had a team running in the Cardiff Half this year, it was a no-brainer that we would raise awareness and (hopefully) funds to contribute to Dan's fight.

So we're calling you to dip into your pockets to help Dan. Anything can help in his fight.

And if you are not in a place to donate money, we kindly ask that you please donate some of your time to share this cause.
